Pearl jam can you see the real me

The band first performed it on their tour promoting the Quadrophenia album, as a medley with the tape track "I Am the Sea", and it was played up until the end of their next French tour the following year , this time without "I Am the Sea". Following that, it was never played again until the tour , where it found a niche mostly as the concert's final song. It was played in all of the years of the band's existence with drummer Kenney Jones except his final year with the band in This was performed on some occasions in as well.

This was also played in every concert of the tour again promoting Quadrophenia. They continued to play the song until John Entwistle's death in After not performing it for several years, the band began including it in their live shows again in with the bass part, performed by Pino Palladino , being less prominent than the original version. And through it all she offers me protection A lot of love and affection Whether I'm right or wrong. Since you went away the days grow long And soon I'll hear old winter song But i miss you most of all my darling When autumn leaves start to fall.

And I wish I, wish I knew the right words To make you feel better, walk out of this place Defeat them in your secret battle Show them you can be your own man again.

When you're weary, feeling small When tears are in your eyes I will dry them all I'm on your side. I've been crying over you Crying over you and you said so long Left me standing all alone Alone and crying, crying, crying, crying. Rest your head you worry too much it's going to be alright when times get rough you can fall back on us don't give up please don't give up. And the tears come streaming down your face When you lose something you can't replace When you love someone, but it goes to waste Could it be worse?

May God bless and keep you always May your wishes all come true May you always do for others And let others do for you. Today could have been the day That you blow out your candles Make a wish as you close your eyes Today could have been the day Everybody was laughing Instead I just sit here and cry.

Poverty stole your golden shoes It didn't steal your laughter And heartache came to visit me But I knew it wasn't ever after. Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here Here comes the sun, here comes the sun And I say it's all right. I would hold you in my arms I would take the pain away Thank you for all you've done Forgive all your mistakes.

I can tell by your eyes that you've probably been cryin' forever and the stars in the sky don't mean nothin' to you, they're a mirror. I just called to say I love you I just called to say how much I care I just called to say I love you And I mean it from the bottom of my heart. If there's love just feel it And if there's life we'll see it This is no time to be alone, alone yeah I won't let you go. If heaven wasn't so far away I'd pack up the kids and go for the day Introduce them to their grandpa Watch 'em laugh at the way he talks.

Oh, why you look so sad? Tears are in your eyes Come on and come to me now Don't be ashamed to cry Let me see you through 'cause I've seen the dark side too. And I know, you're a part of me And it's your song that sets me free I sing it while I feel I can't hold on I sing tonight cause it comforts me. In the arms of an Angel far away from here From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie You're in the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here.

And I don't want the world to see me Cuz I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am. Oh where, oh where, can my baby be? The Lord took her away from me She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good So I can see my baby when I leave this world. The leader of the band is tired And his eyes are growing old But his blood runs through my instrument And his song is in my soul My life has been a poor attempt To imitate the man I'm just a living legacy To the leader of the band.

Oh now feel it comin' back again like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind forces pullin' from the center of the earth again I can feel it. You're gone, gone, gone away I watched you disappear All that's left is a ghost of you Now we're torn, torn, torn apart. I've been holding out so long I've been sleeping all alone Lord I miss you I've been hanging on the phone I've been sleeping all alone I want to kiss you.

My lover's gone his boots no longer by my door he left at dawn and as I slept I felt him go. Nobody knows Nobody knows but me That I sometimes cry If I could pretend that I'm asleep When my tears start to fall I peek out from behind these walls I think nobody knows Nobody knows no.

So long ago, I don't remember when That's when they say I lost my only friend Well they said she died easy of a broken heart disease As I listened through the cemetery trees. Vedder listened to the tracks just before heading out to surf and was inspired enough to write some lyrics. He recorded his vocals to the music before mailing it back to the band. After hearing it, they invited him to come to Seattle and asked him to join them soon after.

The rest, as they say is history. Alive is the first part of a trilogy of songs, followed by Once , which also featured on Pearl Jam's debut album and Footsteps.

The latter didn't make the record, but went on to feature as the B-side of their Jeremy single. It tells the story of a man who finds out his father is actually his stepfather and that his biological dad is actually dead- an event which occurred in Eddie Vedder's own life when he was a teenager. In the summer of , Vedder again opened for the Who at London's Wembley Stadium, and also joined in for Quadrophenia 's "The Punk and the Godfather," written for the part of the story where Jimmy attends a Who show and confronts the leader, who blows him off.
